Write Sanaf's instructions

Last updated on Sep 23, 2026

Sanaf's instructions are the standing description of its job, and it reads them at the start of every turn, in every place it works.

Where the instructions live

Open Teach Sanaf in the left rail and scroll to the card called How it should work. The large text box holds the full instructions. The label on the card, such as v3, is the version Sanaf is using now.

Short rules you add one at a time sit higher up the same screen. The instructions are the whole shape of the work: what the job is, how to go about it, and what to avoid. Use them for anything too long to say in one message.

Edit the instructions

  1. Open Teach Sanaf.
  2. In How it should work, change the text in the box.
  3. In Why this change, write a short note, for example "Added the after-hours rule". If you leave it empty, the version is recorded as edited in the console.
  4. Select Save as v4 (the number is always one higher than the current version).

Sanaf uses the new version from its next reply. Only an owner or an admin can edit the instructions. Everyone else sees them read-only.

See what changed

Every save is kept as a version, so nothing you replace is lost.

  • The What changed card shows the difference between the current instructions and the version before. Added lines are marked with a plus, removed lines are struck through.
  • The Versions list shows every version with the note saved alongside it. Select one to compare it with the current text.

There is no one-click restore for instructions. To bring an old line back, copy it from the comparison, paste it into the box and save a new version.

Changes Sanaf proposes itself

If you correct Sanaf about the same thing more than once, it may propose adding a rule to its own instructions. It never edits them on its own: the proposal waits for a person to approve it, and an approved change is saved as a new version with a note saying where it came from.

Personality and house rules

Two more settings shape how Sanaf comes across. Open Settings, then Behaviour.

  • Personality: choose Standard, Pragmatic, Warm or Professional.
  • House rules: one rule per line, up to 10 rules, each up to 200 characters. For example "Sign off as the Acme team" or "Never promise a delivery date".

Select Save behaviour to apply both. A house rule never lets Sanaf skip asking before something that needs approval.

Instructions, rules or skills?

  • Use the instructions for the overall job.
  • Use a house rule for a short line about tone or manners that should always hold.
  • Use Tell it something on Teach Sanaf for a single fact or rule about your business.
  • Use a skill for a step-by-step procedure Sanaf should follow for one kind of task.
